Peter Hoare, Owner

Pete, a volunteer firefighter, EMT, and a member of the Board of Health for the town of Essex, has extensive experience with dogs, having co-founded the very successful dog rescue Sweet Paws.

Since then, he has fostered over 200 dogs on the farm and has adopted a handful of them himself. Pete currently has five rescues living with him: Boomer, Bobby, Nash, Gunner and Mike.

He has dedicated his life to dogs full time, so to say he is a dog lover would be an understatement!

Witnessing the crazy and whacky expressions on these dogs' faces when they get the "zoomies" from running in the meadows for the first time is truly one of his favorite past times.

Having said all of this, Pete decided to open up his property to other dogs, so they too, can experience what so many others have.

The Farm

Barn Dog is a fun, safe place for your dog to run, play, chase, and nap as their hearts desire. We aim to make our day camp and boarding a home away from home for your dog to let loose. All day camp dogs will be under the safe supervision of staff while in group, and someone is on the property 24/7 for boarders in case of emergency.

Between our indoor, temperature controlled play areas and boarding area, and outdoor play areas we provide plenty of space for your dog to just be a dog! Barndog is set amongst 7 acres of rolling pastures is South Lane Farm, which was established in 1737. Since then the property has been home to countless animals from cows, to chickens, to horses, and now, of course, lots of DOGS!

The Barn

In 2016 ground was broken on a brand new 3,360 square foot barn exclusively built for our four legged friends! From the ground up, the barn was designed to provide the safest and most hygienic space for dogs to romp and roll. Our climate controlled boarding accommodations have been custom designed to ensure your dog’s comfort and safety. Our spacious indoor and outdoor play areas provide ample space for your pet to romp around.

Outdoor Areas

Our 4,500 square feet outside play space is fenced in and covered with 60 tons of pea stone to ensure cleanliness, and scattered with plenty of tall shady trees for your pup to sniff and relax under in nature.
